making life easier

It has taken a long time but it was well worth it! I can manage the computer myself easily, send e-mails, use my mobile phone and make other phone calls through my computer using my headset and microphone. The only thing I need my carer to do is to physically turn it on if I need to reboot completely. Windows does not have a reputation for being a reliable operating system, although it is getting better.

I digress. The point is I now have a mouse attached to the top of the computer screen which I control with my forehead, and the voice recognition software I use - I have been using to design this blog -- is very accurate; the more you use it, the more accurate it gets. It's nearly 100% accurate now.

So, with the combination of the two products, I am totally independent. I can write using voice recognition software and then e-mail. It's not expensive, as technology develops, and it is very quick and easy to use. You will find very early on that you are much faster than other people using their hands to type.

It's just the fact that people do not know what is available - I would pay a lot of money to be as independent as I am on the computer; the internet allows me to carry out research, to read online magazines, download music, make phone calls from my PC, send text messages from my mobile phone through the PC with the software supplied by the phone manufacturer -- just about everything! And no, it is not expensive. Well, the mobile phone was but someone gave it to me.

I am fortunate enough to have had finances to buy these things for myself. If, however, you are having difficulties with this or any other computer related issues, there are charities to help you out and advise you. I have included links to them on the right hand side of this page.

This is just an illustration of how I function and I have supplied links to websites showing these products and more but I cannot recommend any website over another. I have just had no problems buying these items from them. Even eBay. But I will leave it up to you to draw your own conclusions.
